This year, we visited the amazing NICU staff who provided such incredible care to Rorie and Josie.
Preemies have very sensitive eyes, so their isolettes are kept covered with a quilt. We made two quilts that we donated to the NICU in honor of our girls. We also donated several cloth hearts. Parents carry the hearts for a day or two, then place them with their baby so that the baby can smell their parents. We still cherish the hearts and quilts we were given during and after the girls’ stay.

We feel our overwhelming love for Rorie and Josie every day and our memories of them live on in our hearts. We love this idea of passing love and kindness to others! This morning in the grocery store we were able to pay for the groceries for the woman behind us in line.

On Rorie and Josie’s first birthday, I gave some money to a mother and son who were asking for help outside of our local grocery store. As we exchanged smiles, it reminded me that as much as I cry for the loss of my sweet nieces, I also smile often when I think of them and the immense impact they have had on my life and so many others.
I love Aurora and Josephine so much and held them close to my heart all day as I thought about a random act of kindness to do. I ended up leaving a card and some cash in a Little Free Library stand in our neighborhood. I don’t know who will find it but I hope it goes to someone who is meant to be touched by my nieces’ story. I also baked some mini donuts in their honor and plan to share them at work tomorrow. Happy birthday Rorie and Josie <3
